I am Jesse Coleman of Burnt Brydges Wood Company. My birthday is October 12, 1987, making me 33 years old. I was born and raised in Stratford Ontario, and I love my city a lot. We do fine woodworking, focusing on river tables, live edge furniture, charcuterie boards and custom projects.
I’ve been working with my hands for as long as I can remember. My dad had a hardwood company back in the 90’s. I grew up around wood and equipment since I was a young boy, always following my dad around his warehouse. I got into construction after high school where worked for a construction company for 15 years, 8 of those years as a foreman. I started woodworking at nights and on weekends as a hobby/side hustle and it grew from there. After securing 7 months of full time work doing what I truly wanted to do, I left my construction job and started my business! Best and most rewarding move I’ve ever made.
WHAT WE OFFER
Large tables and furniture packages are what I would like to be known for and sought after. Creativity runs through my veins and bringing people’s thoughts and visions to life is what I truly enjoy. It is a functional furniture art form.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS?
The best part about running my business is the freedom to do what I want. Now, I don’t mean that I only when I want to, but that I have the freedom to work towards something that I’ve always wanted and to do things my way. There is nothing more liberating and mind opening than running your own business knowing the sky is the limit, as long as you are willing put in the work.
WHAT DO YOU WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS?
I want people to know that I put so much care and effort into each piece that I create. I am so thankful that people come to me to create something special for them, trusting me and my quality of craftsmanship.
WHAT IS A CHALLENGE YOUR BUSINESS IS CURRENTLY FACING?
One challenge I am facing right now as a business owner is trying to juggle my life outside of work, or lack there of. The long hours, sacrifices, and not making time for myself or loved ones, is something I’m struggling with right now. My hope is that my business will continue to thrive and I will be able to hang out on the beach with everyone I love in the future.
What do you love about the business community in Stratford?
Stratford businesses are the best at supporting one another! From encouraging people to shop local to cheering and promoting fellow businesses is not something we lack here in the amazing city of Stratford.
